Library Treasure Hunt

Interested in improving your library research skills and having fun at the same time?  Take the library treasure hunt, Mateys.

The treasure hunt consists of 6 clues hidden throughout the library website and requires approximately 20 minutes to complete.  We recommend beginning during normal business hours as some of the questions require librarian interaction (it's fine to take it at night, but you may have to wait until the morning for follow-up clues).  By the time you are done, you'll know how to:

  • Find an ebook
  • Find an article
  • Locate databases in your field
  • Use Google Scholar@UI&U
  • Get formatted APA, Chicago, and MLA citations
  • Get APA, Chicago, and MLA citation examples
  • Navigate the Help Center
  • Ask a librarian for help by chat and email

If you are up for the challenge, here is your first clue:

Matey.  1) Go to the catalog (library homepage, then ebooks tab, then browse search link).  2) Use a title search (plank-walking and you).  3) Enter the book title (exclude the subtitle).  4) Select the ebook from the search results.  5) Click the URL below the title to open the ebook and get the next clue.
